Moulds...
I went to visit the resurected georgian house in Limerick. It was a very beautiful house with loads of inspiration for my project. I also went to the Limerick Museum which surprised me, i discovered Limerick Lace. I have always been a fan of lace and its nice to know that it was very popular in the 1800s in Limerick. I have made 3 different sized moulds of the crown windows from silicone and have used the bigest one to create a wax cast and tomorrow i will use it to create a gelco ( i think thats what its called) cast. I have enjoyed using these different techniques because they are new to me. I have also made 3 plaster casts from my moulds. Using a variety of materials to work with is very interesting, as some work well and others dont. I plan to keep using all sorts of materials and experiment with the pattern of the window crown.

Change of plan..
After a week of trying to work with the idea of using stones, bricks and rubble I looked back on my sketchbook for inspiration. I rediscovered my liking for the door window crowns from the georgian houses in Limerick. I have decided to work with those instead of the stones because I feel that I can do a lot more research, creativity and learning with the design of the window crowns. I went to the textiles workshop in which i learnt how to felt and do the pearl stitch, I hope to use these skills in my project. Tomorrow I will attend the casting workshop with Mike Fox, I have already prepared work for this class and I hope to see a good translation between my drawings and the 3D pieces. Fingers crossed it'll work.

11-15thOct
This week i worked more on my idea of stones and bricks. I painted some watercolours which show the different colours in the different walls. I attended the clay workshop with Elaine. I never really use clay in my work but it was nice to use it and to construct a 3d piece from a 2d drawing. The class felt rushed so i didnt enjoy it as much as i could have, given more time. I took some rubbings of some walls using pencil. I also drew the shapes and the lines of some stones that i had collected using A1 and A2 paper. Todays crit was helpful and it was nice to see other peoples progress in the brief.

The first 2 and a half weeks of the project.
I started with my initial thought which was to look at the buildings of Limerick. I took some photos, and drew some of the buildings that interested me. As i was taking photots i noticed a door that i found interesting. It was the top window of the door that caught my eye. I drew that and i then drew others from different doors. I looked at doors then, and their features such as the door handles and the letter boxes. I drew some of these but i noticed, as i was drawing, the cracks in the door and on the walls. I took photos of these cracks. I looked at all different kinds of walls, made of brick, stone and concrete. I drew tthe lines of the cracks in my sketchbook. I began researching artists and designers including Christo and Jeanne-Claude who are famous for wrapping buildings, monuments and landscapes, Freddie Robins who knitted the homes of women who committed crims, Issey Miyake who was inspired by architecture to create his 'fashion pieces', Sheila Hicks who hung her textile works off of a building and Kano Takao who works with clay and sand. I was inspired by Takao's clay work, "Soul searching on the planet earth" and "The night I was born again" so i began to look at bricks. sones and rubble, which links back to my previous interest in the walls. I drew some pieces of broken brick and stones. I took photos of these also and i noticed how beautiful the colours where. I tried to show these colours in my sketchbook by using oil pastels. I also did some rubbings from the stones. I wasnt sure what to do next so I looked back through my sketchbook and noticed the photo i had taken of the moss on the wall. I thought this looked interesting so i began to take more photos of moss on the walls and also on the trees. I found that the bark on the tree was cracked, like the walls. Plus, the moss is almost wrapping the tree which refers back to the research i did on Christo and Jeanne-Claude. I found some artists and designers who work with and are inspired by moss including Hector Hernandez who made a fashion garment portraying womens underwear out of spanish moss and Tara Baoth Mooney who made a fashion coller out of green moss. I plan to look at the bricks and stones again in colour, form and tone using more mediums to investigate it properly and also to do more research on moss and the bark of the tree.
